As senior year slowly begins to creep up on me, I am really
thinking about the colleges that interest me in my field of major, which would
be chemistry. Prefrible quantum mechanics, I am also considering the environment
at which it is located in. I would like a school with a large amount of
students and relatively close to the ocean. The vibe would be perfect for me,
because I love being part of a vast community of students that are all striving
for success. The university next to the beach is ideal for me, it provides a
great learning environment, and the ocean calms me and sounds fun to chill at
after class. Universities with these traits are UC Santa Cruz, UC Santa Barbra
or UC San Diego.
UC Santa Cruz is my first choice because it is close to home and I
love Santa Cruz. The bowl at the skate park is crazy fun and I can just skate
that all day after class. So being able to skate one of my favorite skate parks
while majoring in the subject I really enjoy sounds just perfect.
UC Santa Barbra is a beautiful campus, my friend Alex got accepted
there and he is always telling me when he comes up to visit how great it is.
The skate parks and skating in the area is great to in southern California were
skateboarding thrives and close to the heart of all skate city’s LA. So going
to this UC would probably be a dream come true to me.
Lastly UC San
Diego is an option however, it is more like one of those that would be fun to
apply to and see what happens.
It seems Nikita , that you have a general interest in science. The world around us is undeniably complex and marvelous which provides ample ground for appreciation and study. Since those posts were written last year I assume that you would be in college already. If you are, I would have one piece of advice for you: regardless of what you eventually pursue as a future carrier, you should always complete each step of your education and not stop half-way. Many freshmen come to college with great hopes but find that all those natural wonders, amazing atoms and quaternary protein structures require a great deal of time investment and tedious study. They get disenchanted quickly and switch majors or quit altogether.
ReplyDeleteDon’t let that happen to you. First semesters of college are rather ubiquitous and can be useful for any major so use that time to figure out what field interests you. Remember that science is a broad category and knowledge in one area would provide some benefit in the next. They are interwoven to a degree and exist under an umbrella definition of science. I would encourage you to look into petroleum engineering as a career choice. It is competitive but very applicable and certainly will be useful in the future.
In any case Nikita, if you are interested I would love to talk to you and give you some advice about college, chemistry, biology and careers in those fields. As it happens I graduated with biology major and chemistry minor several years ago. You can email me at sergbor@yahoo.com with any questions. We have met before, although you might have forgotten.
